The constraint here is outside the walls, not inside them.
Novi built steadily from 1970 through 2019, with the largest single share of its housing from the 2000s. Village Oaks, North Hills and Meadowbrook Glens came first in the 1970s; Greenwood Oaks, Chase Farms and Mystic Forest in the 1990s; Island Lake and Churchill Crossing since. Colonials and ranches dominate, with cape cods and contemporaries throughout.
These are not houses with knob-and-tube behind the walls. They are well-built homes of the last thirty-five years whose kitchens, baths and finishes have simply reached the end of their first life.
What does complicate work here is the land. Novi protects woodlands and wetlands more aggressively than the state does, and both reviews carry their own fees and their own timelines.

Builder grade homes are ready for an upgrade
Much of Novi was built in subdivisions over the last few decades. These homes are solid, but many still have their original builder grade kitchens, baths and finishes, along with large basements that were never finished. Replacing stock cabinets, rebuilding a primary bath or finishing the lower level is where these homes gain the most.

HOAs can add a step
Many Novi subdivisions have a homeowners association. Some want to know about work that affects the exterior, parking, dumpster placement or contractor hours. We check what your association needs before we start and build it into the schedule.

Interior work still needs permits
Moving plumbing, adding a bath, rewiring a kitchen or finishing a basement means building and trade permits through the City of Novi. We pull every permit and schedule every inspection for you.

Design comes first, and your home stays livable
Every project starts with one to three months of design development, so layout, cabinetry, finishes and pricing are settled before demolition. During construction we protect your floors, seal the work area for dust, run negative air, clean up every day and send you a written update every week.

One team from start to finish
Every trade except plumbing, electrical and HVAC is Maxwell's own crew, and our licensed partners handle those three. Your designer and project manager stay with you from the first sketch to the final walkthrough, and the work is backed by a five year workmanship warranty.

Find the woodland line before you draw the addition.
In Novi, the regulated woodland boundary and the wetland edge often determine where an addition can physically go, and both carry review fees and review time. A footprint that works on paper can be impossible once the woodland map is laid over it.
So we check both at the survey stage. If the site is clear, Novi is a straightforward place to build. If it is not, you learn that while the design can still move.
We don't reface cabinets and we don't paint them. We're the right fit when a well-built house deserves new cabinetry and a better plan, not a refresh.

How long does a kitchen or bathroom remodel take in Novi?
Most projects take 14 to 16 weeks of construction after one to three months of design. A single bathroom often takes less time. A kitchen with a new layout takes longer.
Do I need a permit to remodel in Novi?
Yes, if the work touches plumbing, electrical, mechanical or structure. Cosmetic updates may not need one. We handle every permit and inspection as part of the project.
Is it worth replacing builder grade cabinets?
In most Novi kitchens, yes. Original builder cabinets are often particleboard with limited storage. Custom Dura Supreme cabinetry gives you better construction, smarter storage and a layout designed around how you cook and gather.
Can we live in the house while you remodel?
Usually, yes. We seal off the work area, control dust and clean up daily. For a kitchen remodel we help you set up a temporary kitchen so daily life keeps going.
What does it take to finish a basement in Novi?
Any basement bedroom needs a legal exit, called egress. You also need moisture control and permitted electrical, plumbing and mechanical work. Many Novi basements are large and open, which makes them good candidates for a bar, theater, gym or guest suite. We plan the layout and lighting during design.
Do you provide interior design and cabinetry?
Yes. Our design team handles layout, finishes, lighting and fixtures, and we build with Dura Supreme cabinetry in the framed Crestwood and frameless Bria lines. You work with one team from design through installation.
